Low pressure still dominates Europe
with the major centre, 976 mb, just off
SW Ireland. Trough lies from
Malin Head through SE Wales, Brittany to N
Spain, with milder air following
it. Minor low centres are over the Gulf of
Bothnia, the Adriatic and S
of the Azores.
High, 1036 mb, is centred over Spitzbergen with a strong ridge
SW to SE
Greenland.
Weather over the British Isles:
Cloudy
almost everywhere and heavy snow pushed slowly NE across the SW of GB
and
through central Ireland followed by moderate to heavy rain in the
extreme SW.
Culdrose with 20mm of rain was the wettest, but Bristol had
snow equivalent
to 15 mm of rain. The snow had reached parts of the
Midlands, SW Wales,
N Ireland and the Hebrides by 0600. Winds were from the
SE and reached
force 7 in many S places. At midnight, Aberporth was
reporting
continuous heavy snow with a temp of -1C and wind speed of 32kn.

Forecast: Snow
over N Ireland, Wales, and the West Country will move slowly
across much of
England, Wales into S Scotland. Heavy falls with drifting
are expected.
There will be rain at times behind the snow. N Scotland will

cloudy and very cold but other areas will become less cold than of
late.
Outlook:
A slow extension of the thaw to remaining areas preceded by
further snow in
the N and E.
